MBTI Personality Types

The Data

When starting this exploration into MBTI personality types I wanted to see which types were most prevalent in the population. However, upon examining the data and doing further research on other sites that administer the MBTI test, there is no clear personality type that pulls ahead. Below you can see a summary of the data I have, which is from 16personalities. This data would have us believe that INFP and ENFP are the most common type. Yet, a quick google search would tell us that the site truity says ISFJ and ESFJ are the most popular. As I'm unable to find their data and confirm, I'm led to believe that neither of these sources will be able to tell us anything reliably as they aren't true surveys but rather an online quiz one can take of their own volition. If there are people who find personality tests not worth their time, they may fall into a specific MBTI type and thus be underreported.

Zodiac Signs and MBTI Types

The Data

I next wanted to see if there is a correlation between zodiac sign and MBTI type. However, I'm struck with the same conclusion, lack of reporting by certain MBTI types makes it hard to analyze clear results. In fact, there was a distinct trend of all MBTI types starting with "ES" reporting 3 or less and all types starting with "IN" reporting 30 or more.

MBTI Type# Reported
ESTJ2
ESFJ2
ESFP3
ESTP3
ENTJ5
ISFP5
ENFJ7
ISFJ8
ISTP10
ISTJ12
ENFP18
ENTP20
INFJ31
INTP49
INTJ59
INFP72

That being said, there is an even spread when it comes to zodiac signs reported.

Zodiac Sign# Reported
Libra19
Gemini19
Scorpio20
Aries24
Leo26
Sagittarius26
Virgo27
Pisces27
Aquarius27
Capricorn28
Cancer31
Taurus32

Right off the bat, this tells me I'm not likely to find a connection between MBTI type and zodiac sign. Seeing that certain MBTI types reported so highly and some so low, if there were a connection I would see that reflected in the number of zodiac signs, certain signs should've reported higher if associated with those MBTIs.

Nevertheless, here is a summary of my findings.

Changing Direction

After making the first 2 pie charts it's clear that all zodiacs will be skewed towards the IN%%'s due to overreporting on their part. Moving forward I'm going to analyze the top 6 MBTI Types that reported the most and see if there is a trend when broken down into zodiac signs.

Changing Direction Pt. 2

We can see from these results that there is again, no clear trend. As a last resort I am going to sort all of the zodiac signs into their elements, fire, earth, water, and air, (There are broader personality traits associated with each element.), and the MBTI types into their 4 categories: analyst, diplomat, sentinels, and explorers (As described here), and see if any connections can be made.
